Periodontal Laser Therapy
LPeriodontal laser therapy is a laser based non-surgical technique for the treatment of gum disease. This patient friendly laser treatment is very effective and far less invasive and traumatic than conventional periodontal surgery. This means there is less pain, less bleeding, less swelling, less tissue removal, less discomfort, less down time and less recovery time involved in the procedure. Periodontal laser therapy is a major breakthrough in modern dentistry that has proven to be as effective as surgery for the treatment of periodontal disease.
Bleeding of the gums when brushing, flossing or eating hard foods, puffiness or tenderness of the gums, halitosis and loose-feeling teeth are all symptoms of diseased gum tissue which, if left untreated, can lead to early tooth loss. Laser periodontal therapy procedure can help eliminate infection and heal gum tissue, thus, preserving as much of the healthy gum tissue as possible, maintaining the height of the gums around the teeth, and minimizing the discomfort.
Periodontal laser therapy procedure starts with scaling and the use of small instruments to remove the tartar. Then, a laser fiber, which is only about as wide as a couple of human hairs, is inserted between the gum tissue and your tooth. A small amount of light energy from the laser sterilizes the area, removes diseased tissue only, and aids in reducing the bacteria associated with periodontal disease. After the area is thoroughly cleaned, your body can heal the area naturally.
Periodontal laser therapy doesn't take much time to complete – just two two-hour sessions versus eight to ten one-hour sessions with surgery. The sense of recovery is immediate, after the procedure you can drive your car, go back to work, or do anything else you want.
