The DIAGNOdent laser cavity detection system is the major breakthrough in diagnosing tooth decay since the dental x-ray. DIAGNOdent is a pen-like probe that glides over tooth surfaces and sends a safe, painless laser beam into a biting groove of the tooth and checks its health. Decay reflects this beam differently that healthy tooth structure, so if decay is present, a number scale and an alarm will signal allowing dentists to measure the spot and extent of the decay.
